A little intro...

So I have created this blog as part of a project in aim to reach other students, designers and people with similar interests to share examples of my work, as well as an odd bit here and there of things relating to fashion, art and design and places that I’ve been that have helped shape me into who I am and what has influenced me. Enjoy!

Garment Technology

Here are examples of the work I have been doing recently in my module garment technology, where we research examples of garments as well as pattern cutting and sample making.

These research boards related to the patterns and samples that we were making in class. For these boards we had to cover a range of different examples from primary and secondary resources as well as some historical examples.

Research into fitted bra top dresses.

Research into circle, gathered and pleated skirts and dresses.

Research into interesting sleeves.

Research into rever collars. Admittedly after some further work into
this project I came to realise that some of these examples aren't
exactly rever collars, but they still show some interesting examples :)

Samples:

Revere Collar:
I did do this a little bit wrong to my design as I made the notch into the collar too big, but I still think the collar works well and has the same basic look that I intended. Plus I'm pretty hapy with the quality of the sewing :)

 Puff sleeve
Well the material for this is pretty rubbish let's be honest, but just focusing on the contruction of the sleeve I think it looks alright. Probably could hav designed something a little more exciting but now I understand the pattern better I will do so next time round! (Also must concentrate better so to not sew the sleeve inside out every single time!)

Gathered waist
Loved loved loved the making of this one as it was just so simple! While it does look a little odd how its hanging on the mannequin due to the open side seam, it really does create much more interesting shape and design by simply adding some gathers.

Lantern sleeve
Again need to focus better to stop sewing things inside out, but when calmed down and re-attempted, I think this turned out alright! Still not sure if I'm a major fan of the lantern sleeve, but have stumbled across some intresting uses of it and it is at least a little bit different!

Group Dress:
So this all culminated into designing and making a dress in groups, to contain a puff sleeve, revere collar and a circle skirt. Initially of course we were pretty stumped with how on earth we could make something that would not look out-dated and would actually be something young, fun and creative. But, eventually, we came up with our design and worked hard to create something that I like to think we were pretty proud of. It was relatively stress free apart from the snow getting in our way and the odd glitch here and there as expected.

And so this is our dress, made of chiffon and double-knit jersey.
